The Cycle Coach supports Cycle Slam

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Cycle Coach for the last ever Dallaglio Cycle Slam.

The Cycle Coach is a British Cycling affiliated club that provide children and young people with the opportunity to explore the sport of cycling, as well as providing educational programmes for underrepresented and underprivileged young people across London.

It is this desire to support young people that brought The Cycle Coach and Dallaglio RugbyWorks together to join forces for this momentous event!

Founder of The Cycle Coach, James Hey will be leading the team providing all mechanical services at the event, to ensure a seamless and uninterrupted ride for our brave riders. He and his team of ride leaders are also hosting a series of training rides to prepare our riders for the challenge they are about to take on and will also fuel them with vital nutrition throughout the event.

In addition to this, James has partnered with the cycling giant Trek, and the team at Trek Bike Bracknell are kindly supporting our riders with bike maintenance before and during the ride.

RugbyWorks Founder, Lawrence Dallaglio has said:

“The support James has provided has been brilliant and we’re excited to have him and his team as part of the final ever Slam. I’m looking forward to riding my new Trek bike in April 2024 that’s for sure!”

Another fantastic partnership conceived by James was his effort to aid Afghan refugee women through cycling. In 2021 the Taliban seized basic human rights of women, forbidding them from participating in sports, as well as accessing education. However, many of them found refuge in the UK in 2022, where seven of them were supported by James to take on cycling.

Armed with the support from his sponsors, James was able to gift these women with new bikes and inadvertently provided them with a beacon of hope. Through consistent coaching, he turned them into formidable cyclists.

A testament to their progress was their recent participation in the 2023 Asian Road Cycling Championship held in Thailand. Most remarkably, one of the women, Arefa, represented her country in the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championship held in Glasgow, a striking contrast to a year ago when she was prohibited from participating in sport.

We are optimistic that several riders from that period can accompany us on our concluding Slam along the route. Cycling has served as a catalyst for transformation and freedom, and these women exemplify the accomplishments that can result from including the excluded.

James Hey, has said:
We are thrilled to be partnering with RugbyWorks for the last ever Cycle Slam, navigating through an incredible route. Both organisations are united by a shared objective of empowering young individuals through sport. In partnership with Trek, our commitment is to ensure a seamless on the bike experience for all cyclists helping to raise funds for a great cause”.
