Our response to catch-up funding by Government

Our response to £1billion government funding which will allow young people to catch-up on missed education.

Earlier today (19 June 2020), the UK Government announced a £1bn fund to help England's children catch up on what they have missed while schools have been closed. The most disadvantaged pupils will have access to tutors through a £350m programme over the year from September. In response to this news, we have issued the following comment:

Message from Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, Founder of Dallaglio RugbyWorks and Jason Worthy, Trustee of Dallaglio RugbyWorks.

“We’re pleased that the government has committed to providing much needed additional support for young people with today’s announcement of extra funding.

“During this uncertain and challenging period, it is vital that all young people are given the best possible chance to not only catch up on their lost education time, but to also enable them to thrive and achieve the best pathway for their future.

“Alongside the £700 million commitment for education settings, we are also pleased that £300 million has been put towards the multi-year National Tutoring Programme, designed to support the most disadvantaged young people in England.

“At Dallaglio RugbyWorks we support many disadvantaged and disengaged young people who are at risk of or have fallen out of the education system. We know the power of intervention and engagement can have on young people to change not only their outlook, but also their educational attainment; so we are pleased to see significant resources have been dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people to succeed.

“We are ready to help our schools get ready for the new academic year, through our bespoke intervention programmes and our planned summer schools activity, to ensure young people are ‘Learning Ready’ when we hope all our young people return to education in September.”
