Dallaglio RugbyWorks Publishes 2023/2024 Impact Report
Dallaglio RugbyWorks has unveiled its 2023/2024 Impact Report, revealing a year of transformative achievements in addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable young people across the UK. The charity, founded by former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, continues to leverage rugby's values to support those excluded from mainstream education, delivering life-changing outcomes.
Key Highlights from the 2023/2024 Report
The report outlines the charity’s efforts and measurable outcomes, including:
Record Engagement: Over 2,300 young people participated across 22 Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), 17 mainstream schools, and community settings.
Positive Destinations: 98.65% of school leavers in the RugbyWorks programme transitioned into education, employment, or training—double the national average for excluded youth.
Mental and Physical Wellbeing: The programme helped 87% of participants feel more optimistic about the future, with 78% improving their ability to handle challenges effectively.
Diverse Support Reach: Programmes impacted young people from diverse backgrounds, with 42% female participants, 34% holding Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), and 67% eligible for free school meals.
Addressing Urgent Challenges
The report sheds light on a troubling national picture, where mental health concerns have surged among young people, and exclusion rates remain alarmingly high. Exclusions often lead to a devastating cycle of disadvantage, with current rates showing that 50% of excluded youth have no onward destination by age 21.
Dallaglio RugbyWorks directly addresses these issues through rugby-based interventions grounded in resilience, teamwork, and respect. Success stories include Demi, who earned a Level 2 Sports Leaders Qualification and now works as a teaching assistant at the PRU which Dallaglio RugbyWorks met her in, and Dylan, who transitioned from a Youth Offender Institute to a rugby coaching traineeship.
Future Ambitions
Looking ahead, RugbyWorks plans to expand its geographic reach, implement a strengthened post-16 curriculum, and increase focus on employability workshops. The charity’s initiatives, such as dedicated mentoring and partnerships with organisations like the Youth Endowment Fund and The British & Irish Lions, aim to further enhance outcomes.
